Mould is very frequent in houses and flats that have humidity problems due to an improper use of the premises or as a result of water system failure. Places regarded as most vulnerable to the development of mildew are:

- Wet and cold outer wall corners
- Wet and cold corners of outer and partition walls
- Wet and cold corners of outer walls and ceilings

Moulds occurring in a dwelling place produce many complex compounds. Some of them are used for production of antibiotics but some of them are known as poisons and hallucinogens that may cause allergies or even possess carcinogenic properties. Moulds cause many diseases.
